Introduction to Finding your Niche
Myth : You need a huge budget to start a home based Internet business.
Truth: Not really, if you've got a good step-by-step plan, you can get started pretty cheap.
That is, if you're willing to put forth the effort.
It is very important to find and research your niche BEFORE you worry about what products to sell.
Instead of looking for the "hottest products" that will make you rich, you need to identify your target market.
A target market is a group of people with a problem they are trying to solve.
The key to succeeding online?
Finding a group of people who have a specific need and coming up with a way to satisfy whatever that need may be.
How do you find your target market?
You look for people with whom you have something in common.
If your business has to do with something you're passionate about, you will have an easier time staying committed to your business. Also, if you share similar interests with your future customers, you'll be able to relate to them in a sincere way.
Here are some key questions to ask your self when deciding on your niche:
- What are you interested in?
- A hobby
- Something you've been wanting to research or have already been researching.
- What are your passion?
- Do you love animals?
- Are you into sports?
- Are you into crafts?
- What do you know a lot about?
- Are you a computer wiz?
- Are you a matchmaker?
- Do you have special skills from a job?
If you start with something you already have a good knowledge base in, you can concentrate less on research and more on developing the skills needed to market your products.
It is an absolute must that you are able to educate your customers about your products. You need to be able to become an expert so that the people you are trying to sell products to can feel comfortable coming to you to solve their problems.
You may think you don't have any special skills or interests, but everyone has something.
Think about your life experiences:
- What jobs have you had?
- What hobbies do you have?
- What do you research when you're on the Internet?
- Have you ever helped someone with a problem?
- Do you know how to do something your friends and family come to you to get help with?
- Are you an avid hunter?
- review hunting gear
- review rifles
- write articles about the best places to hunt
- Are you the computer wiz in your family?
- review software
- create a hosting company
- review other hosting companies and become an affiliate
- write articles about internet safety
- write how-to tutorials or make video tutorials for software applications (i.e. HTML editors, photo software
- Have you ever tried starting an online business before?
- Even if you weren't successful (yet), maybe you bought some "Intenet marketing" or "how to start a home based business" information products. Maybe you could review them and tell people the pros and cons and what worked or what didn't work for you.
- Do you have pets?
- maybe you could offer an information product about pet training or care.
With online marketing, even creating your own product can be done quickly and inexpensively.
Plus you only have to make it once and then you can make as many copies as you'll ever need.
This is the beauty of digital products.
Of course, you're not limited to digital products, you can sell whatever you want. This is just the cheapest and easiest way I know to get your business at home started.
How do you know if you're in the right niche?
Well, you first have to make sure your target market isn't too broad. We want to do something called laser targeting.
This is done by researching your keywords. Click here to learn about researching keywords.
For example: Don't make your target market...
" Everyone who wants to
work at home."
or
"Recipe books"
You must narrow it down to a much smaller group of people. If you're trying to sell to everyone, you'll sell to no one. You should do some Google, Ask.com, Yahoo, and MSN Live searches and find your niche within a niche.
For example, you love to cook Italian recipes that are appropriate for those who are on a certain diet.
That's how you laser target.
Don't try top give your market something you THINK they need, give them something THEY think they need, a solution to a problem they're already actively seeking.
The bottom line is that you've got to let your market tell you what to sell them.

Business Niche

When some folks begin to think about a business of their own,
they know in that very moment what kind they are going to start. Then,
there are the rest of us...
Knowing that we want to have a business of our own is not enough. Many of us have struggled with the important question of what type of enterprise we would like to start.
Franchises offer a simple pre-packaged money making idea, but the cost of a franchise often makes it a prohibitive option to most folks who contemplate going out on their own.
For those who do not have a million dollars to buy a McDonalds franchise, we must look to other ideas for our own business.
There are literally hundreds of lucrative home business ideas for you to choose from, which will suit every type of personality and all levels of financing. From selling information on the Internet as a infopreneur, to growing delicious gourmet mushrooms for sale to restaurants and catering companies; there is a pile of money to be made by filling a need, for these and a host of other necessary services.
Of course, actually liking what you do, will have a lot to do with the success of your new venture, so be sure to pick a home business that you'll enjoy running and that will keep you motivated.
For example, if you're a math whiz, an accounting or income tax service might be the ideal home business for you to start. Perhaps writing is your forte and you'd like to start your own home based copywriting service or advertising agency. Each of these businesses can be run successfully--and profitably from the comfort of your own home.
Academia might not be your cup of tea, but maybe you are good with your hands --- having a creative genius where crafts are concerned. Craft items are red-hot sellers at swap meets, country fairs and world wide over the Internet, and they can provide you with solid profits. If crafts don't interest you, then why not start a laundry service with pick-up and delivery, or a shopping service for shut-in's--even a companion service or granny sitter or a doctor shuttle service; any of which, could be much in demand, in and around your neighborhood or community.
When brainstorming new ideas for your future home business, keep in mind the soul of any successful endeavor is providing a product or service that others will actually purchase in quantities. Satisfy the needs of your target market, and your target market will keep you and your home based business healthy, happy and profitable.
