Do What You Love And the Money Will Follow

Before you even get started in your work from home business adventure, let's get you organized.

We'll need a plan of action:
  • How many hours per night (or day) can you work around your current employment scedule? Are you serious enough about building your business to give up some TV time, watching You Tube videos time, going out time?
  • What times of the day will you work? Write yourself a scedule and stick to it. You'll have certain tasks to get done each day and if you stick to a scedule, you won't slack off or burn yourself out.
  • Where will your work space be? You need your own area for all of your home office materials.
Once you have this plan worked out, you can organize your work space.

Let's think about what you'll need:

  • A computer (of course)
    • Folders on your computer for all of your Internet marketing downloads and documents you create:
      • Your articles
      • Your autoresponder messages
      • Your mini-courses
      • Your ads (I use note tab lite for this, you could use notepad)
      • Blogging/ RSS
      • Email marketing
      • Advertising
      • Affiliate marketing
      • Network marketing
      • Webdesign
      • Traffic generation
      • SEO
      • General Internet marketing
      • Self-improvement
      • Audio files
      • Videos
      • Templates
      • Resale rights materials
        • Broken down into categories. You could just include materials that are worthy of giving to your visitors as an incentive to become subscribers.
Put only the icons for your most used applications on your desktop:
  • HTML editor if you're working on web pages.
  • Notepad or Notetab light for ads and maybe autoresponder messages.
  • Camtasia studio if you're going to make screen capture videos. I totally recommend investing in this when you can because the use of video is really starting to explode and right now is a good time to be an innovator with video whenever you can.
For Example: I am in the process of switching most of my communications with my list to video instead of text because it's more personal.

I still use Aweber of course to capture my subscribers and to send them the links to my vlog and sure, I still send out HTML messages with links in them. But, my use of vmail seems to have really caught the attention of some of my subscribers.

See The Video Below To see How I Can Send Vmail, Add Streaming Video to My Sites, Vlog, Video IM, and Live webcast.

I just find it a lot easier to use when I'm browsing the Internet or previewing my site editing.

Plus I love the drag and drop bookmarks feature.
Of course, if you're not comfortable moving from Internet Explorer, that's fine too. In fact, I still use I.E. every single day to log into Helloworld because it's not really optimized for Firefox.

I know, Firefox/ Seamonkey lovers, this is an outrage. I almost didn't get Helloworld because of that. But, it was just too good to pass up. So, oh well, I have to use Internet Explorer for one thing. It's cool, I have Instant Buzz on there earning me free leads anyway.

OK, now that I went off on that little tangent, let me get back to our home office checklist.

Sometimes I use Microsoft Word if I'm writing a long artyicle or a product review but only after I've already written it on paper.

So that brings me to the next neccessary office supply:

Lots of notebooks.

Here is a list of the main notebooks I keep. This might just stir your imagination or make you go "oh yeah, that's a good idea." I'm trying to help because it took me a long time with papers scattered all over the place before I got this "notebook system" down to a science.

  • Binder w/ looseleaf paper & tabs for webpage content, articles, and product reviews. Seperated by topic.
  • Notebook for autoresponder messages.
  • Small composition book for a recored of the ads I place and in which cities (i.e. in Craigslist and Backpage)
  • Notebook for leads. Each one gets their own page for notes with a "prospect interview sheet" stapled to the page. It starts off with their name, email address, phone number, and where they came to my leads capture page from. Then I send them a vmail and put a check after it has been watched. Then, when I call them, I take notes on the things discussed on the Network Marketing page at Initial Contact. I leave plenty of room for the follow up call for after I've sent them to view a presentation of the product or opportunity.
  • A notebook for taking notes when I'm listening to audios or watching videos or researching a topic on the Internet.
  • And 1 last notebook that I carry around with me in case I get an idea when I'm out and about and need to jot down some notes. This is kind of like a journal of my thoughts that can sometimes turn into useful content.

Then, I have index card boxes ($1 a piece at Target) containing:

  • Article headlines that caught my eye for inspiration when I need to write an article headline.
  • Ad headlines that caught my eye for when I need to write ads and need inspiration.
  • Usernames and passwords for traffic exchanges.
  • Usernames and passwords for affiliate promotions.
  • Names of people who i want to research later (you know how Internet  marketers love to "name drop," well sometimes you can find some really useful stuff by writing down names and then searching for them later. This is how I found a lot of great stuff from Jonathan Budd. I really mesh with his ideas on network marketing so I'm so glad I wrote down his name.

Plenty of your favorite pens & highlighters.

The reason I say highlighters is because:
  1. You'll inevitably buy at least a few books to increase your knowledge and skill set.
  2. If you're anything like me, you'll want to print out the really good documents that you download online. It can get really tiring reading a long document on your computer screen. If it's good information and it's long, it's worth printing out so you can curl up on the couch and get comfy while you read it.
I use bider clips to keep the documents together.

Oh, and make sure you have plenty of extra printer ink.

Another thing I LOVE to use are sticky notes (hence the web page design). I use them to
  • Mark important places in my courses or whatever I'm working on.
  • Add notes to my prospect note pages.
  • Write notes to myself and stick them on the computer screen.
  • I use the large, lined stickies when researching to write notes and outlines.

And the last thing you may want to have in your home office is somewhere to store all of your notes, printed documents, and other important papers.

Here's what I do:
  • Crate #1: General marketing documents including:
    • My favorite marketing course
    • Email marketing
    • All types of traffic generation (article marketing, forum marketing, etc.)
    • Advertising
    • My content notebooks other than my webpages
  • Crate #2: All web design documents:
    • The entire Webdesign Mastery Course (all 8 volumes) printed out which takes up about 1/2 the crate (yes, it's that good).
    • Blogging
    • RSS
    • Squidoo
    • SEO
    • My webpages binder
  • Crate #3: All of my Network Marketing documents.
    • Richard Kall's "The Book On Network Marketing" printed out (he's the CEO of my primary opportunity, this is an AWESOME BOOK. If you're on the fence about ANY network marketing opportunity or you need clarification on what Network Marketing really is, email me and I'll send you a copy of this book.)
    • Success In 10 Steps. You may have heard of this book in relation to the "Mentoring For free" offer that's all over the Internet. I don't know how many people promote this (a lot, I know) but I was lucky and got it from my now good friend Don Reiman who has really stayed true to his word. He just tells me when the "Mentoring For Free" calls are and asks how I'm doing every once in a while. But he knows that I'm already involved in my primary business and he never tries to pitch me on his opportunity. Very cool. Go see Don for a copy of "10 Steps To Success."
    • My paperwork for my primary opportunity.
    • My advertising log for lead generation.
    • My leads notebook.
    • My scriptbook. Click here to see the scriptbook I use. While you're there, there are over 30 hours of free audio traing for network marketers. No specific opportunity is ever mentioned, this is completely generic and AWESOME training. This is where I send new people who become part of my organization.
    • My business plan (a huge plan and training provided by my primary6 opportunity)
    • "Magnetic Sponsoring" by Mike Dillard. This is THE book on "attraction marketing." which means: "How to get your prospects to come to you asking about your opportunity without you chasing them (away).

OK, why did I go into so much detail about my home office and my marketing toolkit?

Well, it comes down to this:

This website is called "The Newbie Business center." My dream has always been to make this website a place where someone who is just starting in a home based business online could come and "figure things out." I don't want to leave anything out.

I know when I 1st started, I was NOT prepared for the amount of "stuff" I was about to accumulate. I remember a time, quite a long time ago but still fresh in my memory, when my computer desktop was covered with .zip files, templates, all kinds of useless software applications, and who knows what else.

It took me a very long time to get orgaanized to the point I'm at now. I just wanted my readers to get off on the right start. You'll be plenty busy building your business, the last thing you'll need is to  have to sort through a bunch of downloads and try to make sense of a big mess.

Remember when I said I was converting a lot of my newsletter to video?

Well, for Newbie Tips, I'm making a lot of screen capture videos that just "get back to the basics." You know, the technical stuff that the "gurus" who sell you information products online assume you already know.

Subscribe to Newbie Tips for Videos and Articles About:

  • Organizing your downloads.
  • Keeping your P.C. running smooth.
  • Organizing your bookmarks.
  • Creating basic HTML pages.
  • Using an autoresponder
  • Posting ads with links
  • Getting the most out of your traffic exchange surfing time.
  • Writing content for webpages
  • Blogging
  • RSS
  • How to write ads
  • And more.
Just fill out the form below to "get back to the basics" and get your business off to a running start.

Don't worry, you won't recieve a bunch of affiliate promos from me. Just good, solid content like you see here on my web pages.

Oh, and don't fret, I will never sell, rent, or share your information with anyone, EVER. This is between you and I.

Did you ever hear "Do What You Love...The Money Will Follow?"

Well, what you need to do is identify some site concepts that you know well and you love. This is the most important part of your entire affiliate business.

I know, you'd rather get started already, right?

Well, I'll tell you this, if you don't  do some careful planning and preparation, you're just setting yourself up for more work. Just imagine that you forgot a page when you built your site. Now you have to go back and add a piece to the template on every single page of your site (depending on which HTML editor you're using).

Your best bet is to start with your content and THEN choose your affiliate programs/ products around your content. This is so much easier than picking an affiliate product and trying to build an entire website around it.

Think about it.

Do not start with monetization when building your affiliate business. Start with content. You'll be able to find applicable affiliate products for pretty much any type of content you're providing so do something you love.

You'll have a much easier time and a lot more fun if you actually like what you're doing.

Site Build It has an awesome strategy that anyone can follow no matter what the topic of their business is going to be.

Their philosophy:

 Content>>>Traffic>>>Presell>>>Monetization
is a very sound concept that works. No matter what level you're at, you'll be taken step by step through the process of building a successful affiliate business on the Internet.

Check out the video to see exactly how this process works.
